Mastectomy

You are not alone. About 1 in 8 U.S. women (about 12.4%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. A lot of them will undergo a single breast mastectomy or a bilateral mastectomy. In women under 45, breast cancer is more common in African-American women than white women. Overall, African-American women are more likely to die of breast cancer. For Asian, Hispanic, and Native-American women, the risk of developing and dying from breast cancer is lower.

Among those living with breast cancer, the main causes are Swelling of all or part of a breast (even if no distinct lump is felt), Skin irritation or dimpling (sometimes looking like an orange peel), Breast or nipple pain, Nipple retraction (turning inward), Redness, scaliness, or thickening of the nipple or breast skin, Nipple discharge (other than breast milk). ABC Prosthetics & Orthotics understands that your relationship with your mastectomy fitter is a lifelong trust that only strengthens over time.  We will do our best to earn your trust with each and every visit, so that you can regain your confidence and look and feel great and know that we are always here to assist in a moment's notice.
