ABC Prosthetics & Orthotics provides the same superior quality and service to our prescription footwear and comfort shoe department as we do to our prosthetics and orthotics.

We offer a wide selection of comfort and orthopedic shoes ranging from corrective shoes for children to adult therapeutic shoes. We provide our footwear customers with the complete line of prescription footwear from P.W. Minor & Son.

Our certified pedorthotists are fully qualified to fit all types of shoe inserts and orthotics. We take pride in our specialty to fabricate custom-made shoes for the difficult-to-fit patient.

ABC Prosthetics and Orthotics also specializes in fitting diabetic shoes. Medicare diabetic patients should be aware that Medicare now reimburses for diabetic shoes if certain conditions are met. Medicare coverage includes reimbursement for custom molded or extra depth shoes and inserts recommended by your physician as follows:

bulletWithin each calendar year, Medicare will reimburse for either, but not both: one pair of custom molded shoes, including the inserts provided with them, and two additional pairs of inserts.

OR…

bulletOne pair of extra depth shoes, NOT including the inserts provided with them and three pairs of replacement inserts.

Your doctor must provide you with a letter describing your condition, which you must give to your pedorthotist during your office visit to ABC Prosthetics and Orthotics. The doctor's letter must include the following:

bulletA statement that you have diabetes
bulletA statement that you have one or more of these conditions:
bulletPrevious amputation or partial amputation of the foot
bulletHistory of previous ulceration of the foot
bulletPre-ulceration callus formation of the foot
bulletPeripheral neuropathy with a history or callus formation
bulletFoot deformity
bulletPoor circulation
bulletThe physician's certification that you are being treated under a comprehensive plan of care for diabetes and need extra depth shoes.

ABC Prosthetics & Orthotics offers orthopedic and diabetic shoes at all of our facilities.

Did You Know?

For Your Info...
More than 60% of non-traumatic lower-limb amputations in the United States occur among people with diabetes. From 1997 to 1999, about 82,000 non-traumatic lower-limb amputations were performed each year among people with diabetes.
