Other than skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women in the United States. More than 180,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year.

related to Breast Cancer actually declined during 1992-1997 with the largest decreases in younger women--both white and black. This decline is due to earlier detection through screening mammography and improvements in chemotherapy and radiation therapy. |
