Frequently Asked Questions
|
Will my insurance pay for these services?
Generally most insurance carriers cover most O & P services. Our
office staff is very knowledgeable in the ever-changing health insurance industry, and
will take care of all the claims and paperwork to get you the benefits you deserve.
Will I need a physician's prescription?
Yes. A physician's approval/prescription will ensure proper treatment of your physical condition. An initial consultation,
however, does not require a prescription.
How soon after surgery am I ready to be
fit for a prosthesis?
The person who ultimately makes that decision is your doctor. We require a prescription from
your doctor in order to begin fabrication of a prosthesis. Evaluations and consultations are always done free of charge. Our staff will take every opportunity to consult with your physician regarding your amputation, any medical precautions, and anything that could effect your options or expected outcome.
Am I able to contact some of the
clients who have come to ABC Prosthetics & Orthotics for their prostheses?
Absolutely! ABC has a large number of clients that allow us to use their names for people who need information about
their experience with us. These clients are willing to share their
experiences as a way of giving back and offering support, information and encouragement.
We will do our best to give you names of amputees who are relatively the same age and amputation level as you.
Are the practitioners at ABC
Prosthetics & Orthotics licensed by the
State of Florida?
Yes! As of 1998, Florida State Law requires
Prosthetists & Orthotists to pass a written exam and go before
the Board of Health to obtain licensure in order to treat patients. All practitioners at
ABC Prosthetics & Orthotics are licensed by the State of
Florida's Department of Health. Our staff also regularly earns continuing education
credits as required by the State. We frequently attend meetings and seminars which concentrate on potential advances in the fields of prosthetics
and orthotics that could prove to be beneficial to our clients.
Do I have a choice in selecting a prosthetist?
You do have a choice. Most amputees have little time to prepare for losing a limb and find themselves numb with grief and feelings of isolation. Prosthetics is a medical specialty few people are acquainted with, including many health care professionals. However, there are many differences among practitioners, and amputees and their families need to take the time to gather information and learn about the many options available.
In most cases, even if one prosthetist made you a preparatory artificial limb, you can select a different prosthetist to make your permanent prosthesis.
ABC Prosthetics & Orthotics offers free, no-obligation evaluations to all amputees wishing to learn more about our facility.
